Sing Out Spring is in Yiyili Country, which is near Halls Creek in the Kimberley region.  This painting tells the story of three men who came upon this freshwater spring while walking through the country.  They were visitors to this country and had not been welcomed.  As they bent down to drink at the water’s edge, the water snake, Garbudee, that was living in the water smeltled them and gobbled them up.  This was a lesson not to take what didn’t belong to them.

When people are welcomed to country in Yiyili, water and stones are used.  The stone is dipped into the water and rubbed down the side of the person, just under one’s arm.  The rock is then thrown into the water so that the snake can smell it and accept the visitor.
