Kuyarria has painted her grandfather’s story, Yawalyurru. He came from Papun, a Pintupi tribesman, marrying 3 women and living with them in the Wirrimanu region (Balgo). He would return to his homeland for ceremonies and he passed away on his last journey back home while searching for water. The story was told that he was chasing mirages and they threw spears and boomerangs at him. The spirit came out of his body and he started singing in the spirit world. Kuyarria says his song was heard through the song of the crow in the world he left behind.
