This painting is about the Wedge-tailed Eagle. The Eagle Dreaming lived north-west of Yuendumu at a place called Yuwali, just north of Wakurlpa. It flew south from a place called Ngatiri and made Yuwali his home, Yuwali belongs to the Eagle. The Dreaming made a nest in his country, and once he had done that he used to fly off to another place in search of prey, to Wakurlpu and the country around there. He moved around all day. The mother Eagle had eggs and stayed and looked after them while the father went out to get meat for the family.
This Eagle Dreaming was always very hungry and starving for meat. This Dreaming belongs to the Jungarrayi-Japaljarri men. The picture shows the wedge-tailed eagle’s tracks shown as graphic representation. You can also see its eggs mingled with its intestines—those organs which are found inside the body. ‘Warlawurru’ nests are typically represented by concentric circles. And shown in the left hand bottom corner you can see yapa (human) represented by a “U” shape.
