Byron Brooks paints with an understated delicacy that shows his unique and endless creativity. His knowledge of significant sites within the Spinifex Lands means he is often on country as others attempt to map his remarkable memory.
Byron works with the Spinifex Rangers to manage 55,000 km2 of mostly inaccessible country. In this composition he paints site upon site, overlapping and underscoring the importance. It is his own creativity at work here, moving from the country to the painting with ease.
Pila Nguru depicts many of the significant water sources and cultural sites in the Spinifex estate including Kamanti, Pitapi, Malupiti, Kalapiti, Ilkurlka, Karnka, Pirna, Tjulu, Miramiratjara, Wyarra, Kapikurukuru, Pulitja and Muyuna.
