Born at the original Alice Springs Charles Creek Town Camp in the 1940’s, Carmel was raised and schooled at Santa Teresa Mission. Carmel’s relocation wasn’t unusual at this time when the army shifted many Arrente people eastwards from their traditional land. In her early adult life, Carmel cared for the elderly at the Health Clinic and worked at a chicken farm before moving to Alice Springs where she met her first husband.
After moving to her husband’s birthplace in Mt Allan, Carmel adopted four children.
10 years later, Carmel met her second husband (from Harts Range) and at the age of 40 had her first child - “her miracle babyâ€.
Now a widow, Carmel resides at Trucking Yards Town Camp with her daughter and 4 grandchildren.
Carmel learned to paint by watching her family of strong painters.
She is one of Tangentyere Artists leading and most prolific artists.
Her work is original, vibrant and inspired by both imagination and quirky subjects from every day life, such as fireworks, ferris wheels and rainbow clouds..
