Artist | CHRISTINE YUKENBARRI

Christine Yukenbarri is one of Warlayirti’s brightest emerging artists.

Christine began painting in 2000 and has produced innovative and distinctive works, both in paint and glass.

The themes Christine paints include Witjinti (soakwater), Mungari (bush food) and Winpurpurla, her late mother’s country in the Great Sandy Desert.

She learned to paint by watching her mother and father, the late Lucy Yukenbarri (Napanangka) and Helicopter Tjungurrayi.

Christine Yukenbarri is one of Australia’s leading young artists.

Whilst her output is very limited she constantly paints the stories and themes told to her by her late mother in the most innovative manner.

Each artwork has the sophistication of someone much older, yet the joy of youthfulness in her approach to colour is beautiful and ultimately defines who she is..
