Kanya Tjapangati is a Pintupi men born at the site of Pamatjatunya, which is west of the Jupiter Well area in Western Australia circa 1951.

His father had three wives and was the older brother of the well known Papunya Tula Artist, Pinta Pinta Tjapanangka.

Charlie Tjapangati and Nanyuma Napangati are also closely related to Kanya, sharing the same father but different mothers.

He travelled in to Papunya with Jeremy Long by truck on one of the last government patrols in the area.

Kanya commenced painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1981 and in 1999 contributed to the Kiwirrkura mens’ painting as part of the Western Desert Dialysis Appeal.
