This painting represents an important waterhole near Kalipinpa (approximately 200 km north west of Papunya), where water dreaming ceremonies are performed to bring on the rain. The water holes are depicted as the concentric circles. The ceremony invokes the elements of a storm, being wind, rain and lightning. The rain fills the waterholes and flows through the usually dry creeks. Running water across the sand is indicated here by the meandering lines. The background design represents the rejuvenating effect the rain has had on the land, encouraging regrowth of bush tucker and providing new resouces of water. The aboriginal people perform ceremonial corroboree’s that honour the importance and significance of water to desert survival.
