Country around Kunawarritji
Used to be listed under Balgo but available works have been painted at Matumili. Nora Nungabar was born near Lipuru (Well 37 on the Canning Stock Route) and her totem is Pilkarringka.
She remembers her mother looking after her in a hollow on the side of a sand hill when she was a small child. Nungabar grew up primarily in the county surrounding Wells 33-39 on the Canning Stock Route, although at times it was imperative that her and her family should avoid the Stock Route itself for fear of frontier violence. Eventually, Nungabar travelled along the Canning Stock Route as far as Balgo mission.
She lived at Balgo and nearby communities for many years, before returning to Kunawarritji to live in the same community as her close relatives.
Nungabar paints Wells 33-37 on the Canning Stock Route, and all the water sources in the surrounding area, some of which are of great ceremonial significance..
