Willy or Kaika as he is known first went to the mission school in Warburton, Western Australia.

He continued his schooling at Pukatja (Ernabella) South Australia, and then Areyonga in the Northern Territory.

After he left school he worked as a cattle stockman at the Curtin Springs station, north of Amata.

Willy then worked doing fencing at Pukatja, building the large cattleyards at Fregon as well as some fencing.

He returned to Pukatja to work in the commercial vegetable garden and orchard.

He and his wife, Nuyrapaya (who also paints at Tjala Arts) had four children.

They moved to Amata when his eldest son past away while living in Amata.

Willy had not painted on canvas before coming Tjala Arts in October 2006.

Hector Burton is Willy's brother..
