Land Rights

One date had at the Amata Clinic has Barney born 1920! Another record showed 1929! However we think Barney to be in his seventies to early eighties which wold make his birh date c1939. Barney grew up in Pukutja when it was a mission and known as Ernabella.

After he left school he went to work as a 'horseman' at Kenmore Park, a cattle station not for from Pukutja.

He also worked as a shearer at Pukutja.

He came to live at Amata when his two daughters moved there.

Here he worked in the office, the store and as the elected Chairperson. Barney had never painted using non-traditional methods before coming to Tjala Arts (formerly Minymaku Arts)..
