KUYARRIA MUDGEDELL NAKAMARRA

Kuyarria (Patsy) began painting seriously in about 1993, and then produced some of her best work during 1995.

She became much more prolific with eleven paintings in 1996.

Kuyarrria’s paintings are richly textured, depicting bush food found in her mother’s Kukutja/Ngarti country, near Mungai, south of Balgo. Kuyarria is the daughter of Mati Mudgedell (deceased) and is from a large painting family of which there are three siblings and her son who are successful artists in their own right.

She began her education at the Luurnpa Mission School at Balgo and then went to boarding school in Perth to finish her education.

She is widely acknowledged as the most talented interpreter in the region.

Her visual Arts interests has extended into other areas.

She is the coordinator for Balgo, Remote Indigenous Broadcasting Services (RIBS), previously (BRACS), board member of the Indigenous Community Television (ICTV) and the former Secretary of the Kapululangu Aboriginal Women’s Association (Balgo).

She is the foundation member for the Indigenous Remote Communications Association and is an energetic activist for her people..
