I am a member of the Lockhart River Art Centre known as the Art Gang. My traditional lands lie between the eastern slopes of the McIlwraith Range south of Lockhart River and its western slopes north of Coen. I grew up spending a majority of my childhood on this country with my Grandparents. My country has inspired me to become an artist. The colours and pattern of nature itself, stories from the past, the unique transformation of the land over the seasons... and my own special places that are etched in my memory, these are places I regularly visit. Through my art I aim to reflect and share with others in a contemporary way; my stories, culture and my country.
Colours play an important role in my paintings. I love changing colours, mixing colours and applying them in my own style on canvas. I’m always looking out for different shades and colourations. My colours often reflect my mood and the feelings I get from particular places on my traditional lands.
I use a lot of paint in my work. Sometimes I make layers and layers until I’m satisfied with the texture and the colour; and when I know it will give the desired effect like the emerging colours and the contraction effect of drying layered colours.
It motivates me …whether I’m splashing, brushing, dripping or rolling the colours on.
