TRUDY INKAMALA

Goanna

Trudy Inkamala was born at Hamilton Downs, north west of Alice Springs. Her father worked at Hamilton Downs Station in the garden, growing vegetable for the youth camp. Trudy recalls that it was a happy place to live. She remembers helping her nanna gather the wood so they could do all the washing. She also helped her nanna cook bullock meat and ‘killer’ everyday for the station.

Trudy met her husband when she went to school at Ntaria (Hermannsburg). She lived with her husband at Jay Creek, which she says is also her country.

Trudy only starting sewing at the end of 2013, after her husband of many years sadly passed away. Now she says she cannot stop sewing, “all weekend, sewing, sewing, sewing”. Trudy now resides at Jay Creek and travels daily to the art centre to work.
